Awards
In 2007, Adventist Health in the Central Valley received The Fresno Bee Excellence in Business Award in Health Care. Nominations came from throughout The Bee's circulation area is in Fresno, Madera, Tulare and Kings Counties. Criteria included high ethical standards, significant success/growth, commitment to quality, concern for employees and the environment and contributions to the community.
That same year, Business Street named Central Valley Family Health the top Valley health care organization at its Heroes in HealthCare Awards gala, and the California State Parks area division honored Selma Community Hospital for its community partnership.R In 2008, Richard Rawson was named top health care professional at the Heroes in HealthCare awards gala, and Teri Zonneveld of Kings Regional Health Foundation was named top volunteer.
While earning those awards, Adventist Health in the Central Valley continues to build a culture of quality and excellence by implementing the National Baldrige Quality Award Criteria throughout the network. The award application process cultivates excellence through internal and external evaluation and goal establishment and attainment. Through this process, the expectation of excellence is raised for all employees and partners.
Employee Training
Service excellence is so important to Adventist Health in the Central Valley that all new employees receive a full day of training on how to exceed the expectations of our patients and visitors. Employees review the materials again each year as part of their annual evaluation.
Quality Systems
The hospitals in recent years also have added staff members to track data on practices and outcomes to ensure that patients receive the best care. They also chartered four teams to evaluate and improve procedures and communication to enhance patient care.
Recognition Programs
A fourth way that Adventist Health fosters quality is through a recognition program, whereby employees or patients may fill out a card detailing how an employee demonstrated service excellence. The card is recorded for quarterly recognition assemblies led by top leaders and given to the employee with a sticker for the employee's badge. Many of the notes from patients are then reprinted in a publication called PRAISE, which stands for Patients Recognizing Acts in Service and Excellence.
